At the Antwerp Zoo, more than 600 butterflies flutter around in the historic winter garden, designed in 1897 by Emile Thielens. The butterflies in the Butterfly Garden come from a sustainable project in Costa Rica. In this way, ZOO Antwerp has for several years been encouraging local farmers to cultivate in an environmentally conscious manner and protect the rainforest.
